buildOn Breaks the Cycle of Poor Education

Step 1: Watch this video
Step 2: Break the cycle
Step 3: Change the world

These are the facts:

• In the majority of urban schools, only 50% of students are graduating.
• 1.2 billion people across the globe can’t read or write.
• Two-thirds of illiterate individuals in the world are women.
• In low-income families, every additional year of education can increase a person’s future income by 10%.

This is the future:

buildOn tackles the broken cycle of education at home and abroad. In the United States, buildOn constructs after-school programs in tough inner cities. Urban neighborhoods in Chicago, Detroit and New York have benefited from buildOn student services such as tutoring elementary students, volunteering at senior centers and serving meals to the homeless. Out of all the participating students, 94% graduate and proceed to college while 64% have increased their GPAs in the same year.

Selected students from the program travel to small villages in developing countries to aid the fight for equal education. Every six days, a new school begins constructions thanks to buildOn.

buildOn successfully reinvents the tradition of helping one school at a time and introduces a cycle based on students helping students.

Whether it’s with time or a donation, buildOn offers a variety of opportunities for individuals, corporations, or institutions to personally get involved. We’d love to hear some of your thoughts in the comments section below!
